Why Not Use Agents?

Because an agent inevitably has split loyalties receiving a % commission on the price paid - so what is his real incentive to drive down the price, get the best deal and reduce his own commission? All an agent needs to do is to give a price which is good enough to win the order. But more importantly than this if prices move down after the initial order the agent has no incentive to advise this to his customer but rather there is the opportunity for the agent to increase his profit.

Buying through agents also often reduces quality control because the agent receives his order and then asks several suppliers to quote - choosing the best price to maximise his profit. This means that very often repeat orders do not come from the same factory with any number of component suppliers - all with subtle differences of specification and a resultant total loss of quality control.

At Hymoto we are tremendously enthusiastic about Chinese products and we are proud of our many excellent relationships with top quality Chinese suppliers. We are confident that with time and effort it is possible to purchase virtually anything from China to a required quality standard and at a price which is simply unbelievable in the West. The best of Chinese products are simply world class and we are confident that within the next decade "made in China" will be a quality mark as made in Japan is now. However, whilst the best of Chinese manufacturing is world class the worst is simply dreadful but this isn't something unique to China - poor manufacturers in the West can be equally dreadful. The difference is that China is 6000 miles away and many buyers don't go and visit potential new suppliers.

Factory Visits are Essential

This advice was given to Hymoto by an importer with many years experience and it has proven to correct so many times. We have, for example, corresponded with several factories only to find when we arrange an unscheduled and unexpected visit that the factory does not exist at the correspondence address - the picture on the web site may not be the picture of the actual factory. Our other experience is that such is the enthusiasm of Chinese companies to do business that whatever you ask them the answer is yes - and they will supply by sourcing from another factory. In fact factories all have their own specialization even specialisations within a product type. For example some factories are better at making small ATV's whilst other are better at manufacturing larger models. Hymoto always go back to the original manufacturer rather than a company.
